Chemicals

Chemicals and water testing

A correct chemical balance is critical to the hygiene of the pool water and the protection of the pool and equipment.

Chemicals are required to purify, sanitize and stabilize the water in your pool in order to ensure a safe and pleasant swimming environment. The type of chemical you use is a matter of personal choice and convenience but we can advise you on the most appropriate options and supply them in the quantities that you require.

Chlorine

Chlorine is a water sanitizer that prevents the spread of harmful bacteria, viruses and algae in a pool. It is an economical option that is very easy to use and extremely effective. It is virtually odourless in a clean pool and is available in either granular or tablet form to suit different methods of application.

Alternatives are available to those who are irritated by chlorine.

Bromine

Bromine is an alternative to chlorine. It is used more often in indoor pools and Spa baths.

Ultra-violet and ozone treatment

Ultra-violet and ozone treatment units also help to reduce the amount of chemicals required, and therefore make the water more pleasant to swim in.

Salt-water Chlorinators

Many people find that a salt - water pool makes the water feel ‘softer’.

A salt concentration of 4000 ppm.( Parts per million) is achieved by adding salt directly to the pool.

When water is passed through the flow cell of a salt-water chlorinator, the salt is converted to chlorine. It is not usually necessary to add any further chlorine to the pool.

Chemical testing

To ensure the correct chemical balance in your pool, a basic, easy to use test kit is used on domestic pools.

In commercial pools experiencing heavy and variable bathing loads, more sophisticated test kits are used.

Microbiological testing

For commercial pools, it is considered ‘good practice’ to carry out regular microbiological testing, in addition to the normal chemical testing, to ensure the absence of any bacteria in the pool water.

At Aqua Services, we can carry out a full chemical and bacteriological analysis of your pool water to ensure it is pleasant and safe to swim in.
